Jalen Brunson

Born on August 31, 1996, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Jalen Brunson built his game long before the bright lights of Madison Square Garden found him. As a high school standout at Stevenson High School in Illinois, he already carried the reputation of a player who controlled the pace of every game he stepped into, a trait that would define his entire career.

That reputation only grew at Villanova University, where Brunson helped lead the Wildcats to two NCAA championships in 2016 and 2018, earning National Player of the Year honors along the way. Despite that resume, NBA teams underestimated him on draft night, and he slipped to the second round before the Dallas Mavericks picked him 33rd overall in 2018.

Brunson spent four seasons in Dallas developing his craft, but it was his move to the New York Knicks in 2022 that truly changed the trajectory of his career. Fans quickly noticed his relentless footwork, tight ball handling, and an uncanny ability to score in traffic against much bigger defenders. By 2024, he had earned his first NBA All-Star selection, and the accolades kept stacking from there.

What followed became one of the most remarkable runs in recent Knicks history. In 2025, Brunson led New York to its first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in twenty-five years. Then in 2026, he took it even further, guiding the Knicks to their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999 and their first championship since 1973. Along the way, he claimed both Eastern Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP honors, cementing his name in franchise history.

From an overlooked draft prospect to the face of a championship team, Brunson’s story stands as proof that basketball IQ and leadership can outweigh even the biggest doubts.
